Arizona State University Weatherup Center

Project Size:

48,000 square feet

Project Cost:

$12.7 Million

Project Description:

Arizona State University Weatherup Center is home to the university’s basketball programs. The practice facility provides space to train and study for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

The center includes state-of-the-art practice areas, locker rooms, offices, team meeting areas and audio-visual support. It features two full-size basketball courts, four half courts, film rooms, training areas, classrooms, locker rooms, storage and equipment rooms. The facility will also be used for summer camps and other athletic department events.

A main objective during construction of the project was to make the facility energy-sustainable.  Construction utilized renewable flooring and recycled and locally manufactured materials. Solar panels will provide 45 percent of the building’s electricity. The facility also contains occupancy sensors and window shades, low-flow water fixtures, and reflective roof and paving materials to reduce urban heat.

The Weatherup Center has since been certified LEED Gold.
