Project Size: 370,000 square feet
Project Cost: $290 million
Banner Thunderbird Medical Center engaged in a $290 million expansion to update the existing healthcare facility. The bed tower expansion focused on upgrading technology, patient care and infrastructure at the facility. The project was launched in 2007.
The new facility will provide increased care in cardiology and cardiac surgery, vascular services, pediatrics, high-risk obstetrics and neonatology, oncology, general surgery, neurosciences, and neurosurgery. It adds a new 25,000 square foot lobby, a patient/family library, a heart and vascular center, surgical suites, and a 200-bed tower to the existing facility. The new, seven-floor tower also includes a new Emergency department, additional nurse stations and patient rooms. The new tower connects to the existing medical center.
Banner Thunderbird Medical Center opened its doors in 1983 to serve communities in greater metropolitan Phoenix. It is the fourth largest hospital in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
