Visual Arts Complex at the University of Colorado
The Visual Arts Complex is a state-of-the-art facility located at the University of Colorado’s main campus. The new facility will include studios, galleries, classrooms, lecture halls, wood and metal shops and storage for the University’s permanent art collection, one of the most significant art collections in the American West. It is one of the largest university art facilities in the country.
The Visual Arts Complex includes two buildings connected by a third floor breezeway and pedestrian mall. One building will hold the University of Colorado Art Museum. The museum will include a collection of over 5,000 works of art, two permanent collection galleries and two changing exhibition galleries. Public and student art will be displayed as well. The Visual Arts Complex’s Art Museum held its grand opening on September 24, 2010.
Mortenson Construction brought Virtual Building Logistics onto the project. VBL provided full BIM services, including schedule, cost and facility management. The Visual Arts Complex received LEED Gold certification.
