Yale University Calhoun College
130,000 Square Feet
Calhoun College is a residence hall at Yale University. It is one of the older colleges at Yale. Built in 1932, the historic hall is composed of interconnected three- and four-story buildings. Calhoun College is home to student residences, the College Dean’s office, a library, commons rooms, a dining hall and the Master’s House.
The historic renovation of Calhoun College included improvements to facilities for students, administration and operations, as well as:
- replacing existing systems
- installing new systems
- replacing the slate roof
- masonry repair
- improvements to site accessibility, drainage and landscaping.
The project team utilized Cathodic Protection on about 30% of the exterior masonry skin to protect the structural steel from rusting. This is the second project in the United States to utilize this technology. Systems such as electrical, voice, data, mechanical, and plumbing were replaced. The old steam heating system was replaced with hot water radiation.
