VBL assists Dimeo, UMass Amherst on New Commonwealth Honors College Residential Complex

Virtual Building Logistics was hired by Dimeo Construction to provide assistance on the  Commonwealth Honors College Residential Complex at the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus. VBL provided Data Management and Building Systems coordination support during the construction phase.  The Data Management portion of the project involved:

  • Ensuring that the Dimeo Building Information Modeling standards were adhered to
  • Troubleshooting any problems that appeared
  • Maintaining up to date collision models
  • File conversions for the trades team
  • Generating final coordination sign off drawings
  • Fulfilling other project related tasks on an as needed basis.

During Building Systems coordination, VBL offered support to the building systems trades people. VBL worked in conjunction with the Mechanical /Electrical / Plumbing project managers to coordinate the environmental systems before installation in each building of the complex. The coordination process is completed level by level per building. Collision checks were completed prior to the coordination meeting. The results were sent to the trades people for review in an effort to make the meetings more manageable. Trade collisions were reviewed during numerous GotoMeetings in an effort to complete the coordination process for each building. Upon completion of the coordination process, onsite Project Managers for each trade verified that each level was coordinated and ready for installation by signing off on the drawings.

The Commonwealth Honors College Residential Complex is comprised of residential and teaching buildings at the center of the UMass Amherst campus. The complex contains a total of 1,500 beds, nine classrooms, faculty residences and a variety of support spaces for the complex. The Commonwealth Honors College Residential Complex is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.
